Dan Bernstein
Dan Bernstein was a Press-Enterprise columnist from 1982 until he retired in 2014. He was born in Denver, graduated from Stanford, got his first newspaper job in Salem, Oregon, and came to the Press-Enterprise in 1976. He is the author of two children’s books (both out of print!) and “Justice in Plain Sight,” the story of the Press-Enterprise’s two U.S. Supreme Court victories that gave the public and press a First Amendment right to attend jury selection and preliminary hearings.
Dan plays trombone in RCC's evening jazz ensemble, at Kaiser Hospital and in BrassWorks, a brass quintet. He volunteers in the Real Men Read program for juvenile offenders, whistles and herds sheep. He lives in Riverside with his wife, Candia, and their two Old English sheepdogs, Sherman and Harry.
